To get a good compost heap, you need a mix of carbon rich material and
some nitrogen material - I think alot of the "compost activators" are
just materials with lots of available nitrogen. Urine contains Urea which
contains Nitrogen, which can be used by the bugs etc in the heap.

Does it count as showing off if you activate the compost whilst standing at
the back door?

That depends on how far your back door is from the comp*st heap.

Extra marks for a direct hit from someone-else's back door.
