They suck, apparently :-

I've got a Hayter I bought secondhand, ex-hire, in 1984 and beat
hell out of subduing 4 acres of rough hillside. It still starts first
pull and works perfectly.
I use an electric Hayter that was my Mothers (and she died in 1993) and it's
almost as good as new despite her having a good amount of grass. Only one
problem with it since new, a broken bracket caused by having to run it down
a step, and that was a simple fix after obtaining a redesigned spare part.
Our Hayter (+ Honda & Husqvarna) shop provides excellent friendly service
too.
First comment is they obviously haven't read the instruction book re height
adjustment, with a £50 mower there probably isn't one so they probably don't
realise the Hayter has such a feature, and no doubt lots more besides,
another case for RTFM.
On the lowest setting it would scalp the grass, cricket pitch style.
One has to wonder if the other problem is associated with their lack of
reading too.
After complaining about the too high cut it's perhaps no wonder the agent is
wary of them and asks for £50 for a service (for timewasting?) :-)
