I may have told this story on the net before but, in the 1950's my
family made a number of trips by car from Florida to California. Each time we
entered California, they would ask, "Where are you coming from?" When we said
Florida. The next question was always, "Do you have any Spanish moss?" We,
being native Floridians, always though this was so funny. Who would want the
stuff?

The California people were worried about the many insects that make
the moss home. Another good reason to leave it alone. Can you say "RED BUGS?"
