Cherry laurel? Prunus laurocerasus? Anyway, it doesn't matter much,
as the same applies to true laurel and Portugal laurel. Probably
best in spring, but most times will do - and now is perfectly good.
Use secateurs not shears from choice and otherwise do your worst;
it is very hard to harm those things.

Check it for birds' nests first, otherwise leave it a couple more
weeks.
